According to PTI, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde resigned after the governor requested him to act as interim chief minister.
Even though the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won 230 seats in the 288-member parliament, the ruling coalition is still unable to agree on a candidate for the position of chief minister.
A leader of the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, has stated that the Maratha community wants him to stay in the top position amid the continued uncertainty surrounding the Mahayuti alliance’s selection for Maharashtra’s next chief minister. In light of the state’s impending local body elections, Shiv Sena spokeswoman Sheetal Mhatre told reporters on Tuesday that Shinde should remain chief minister.
She claimed that the Maratha community supported the Mahayuti in the elections because Shinde had “successfully provided ten percent reservation to the Maratha community (under the economically and socially backward category) and helped the community through the Annasaheb Patil and Sarathi corporations.” “The demand that the chief minister should be from the Maratha community is gaining strength,” she stated.
The Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, took home 57 seats, while the BJP, led by Fadnavis, secured the party’s highest-ever total of 132 seats.
Naresh Mhaske, a spokesman for the Shiv Sena, had earlier claimed that Shinde should remain chief minister by referencing the Bihar model. “We believe Shinde ought to be the chief minister, similar to Bihar, when the BJP appointed JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar as chief minister despite failing to consider the data. According to PTI, Mhaske told reporters on Monday that senior Mahayuti (in Maharashtra) authorities would eventually make a decision.
He further stated that following internal party talks, the central leadership would be informed of the final decision. On Saturday, Fadnavis denied that there was any disagreement over the CM’s position, stating that the Mahayuti leaders would make a joint decision. A legislator, meantime, denied rumors that if a new administration is not formed by November 26, when the 14th state assembly’s term ends, the President’s Rule might take effect.
The 15th legislature is really already in place, according to an official, as the Election Commission of India sent copies of the gazette containing the names of the newly elected state legislative assembly members to Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday.
According to Section 73 of the Representation of the People Act, which deals with the publication of state assembly results, “it shall be deemed that the House has been duly constituted after submission of the notification of the names of the members elected,” the official stated.
