On Thursday, October 3, in Kabul, Rashid Khan, the captain of Afghanistan’s Twenty20 cricket team, tied the knot with his three brothers. The 26-year-old chose to marry in the nation’s capital, which was ablaze with joy as Amir Khalil, Zakiullah, Raza Khan, and Rashid all tied the wedding on the same day.
While Rashid and his three siblings married the knot, photos of the lavish wedding festivities went viral on social media. The wedding was attended by many bigwigs of the Afghanistan cricket team and other renowned names.
Rumor has it that Rashid and his siblings were married according to Pashtun tradition. The Afghan capital came to life to celebrate the union of its T20I captain, with wedding festivities held at the Imperial Continental Hotel.
Naseeb Khan, the CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, senior squad member Mohammad Nabi, and up-and-coming players like Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Rahmat Shah, and Mujeeb Ur Rehman were among the notable attendees.
As Rashid Khan started, a lot of supporters and teammates wished him well.
For the first time in the country’s history, Afghanistan advanced to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024 under Rashid Khan’s leadership. Their fairy-tale journey came to an abrupt end in the last four stages as they were defeated by South Africa, but the Afghan Atlans were met with a great deal of support from supporters back home who celebrated the team’s achievement like a festival.
Afghanistan won their first-ever series against the Proteas, defeating South Africa 2-1 in the three-match ODI series, leaving their mark in history. With the exception of Team India, they have defeated every ICC Test-playing nation thanks to this.
Rashid, who took seven wickets in two matches—including a five-wicket haul in the second ODI of the series, which happened to be his 26th birthday—played a significant role in Afghanistan’s triumph in the one-day international series.
